I was really thrilled when Miriam, a very talented jazz singer based in Helensburgh, approached me to ask about headshots for her new website.
As well as photographing children and families, I really enjoy photographing women and showing them, and the world, just how beautiful they are!
Over the past 18 months I have been busy behind the scenes learning more about women’s portraiture including personal branding, and I’m excited to be growing this area in the coming months.
Personal Branding sessions are more than the standard (and often boring) business headshots, they’re about showing who you are.
Miriam is one half of “two more for the road”, along with her pianist Andy they make up a fantastic a Jazz Duo who perform at corporate events and special occasions across Scotland.
In the weeks leading up to the session Miriam and I shared ideas and discussed what she wanted from the session. Miriam shared with me images that she liked and we talked about styling and clothing choices to ensure that we were both “singing from the same sheet”!
We started the session downstairs in one of the Yacht Club’s function rooms where we captured some images of Miriam and Andy together at the Steinway and I was treated to some classic songs including “Summertime” and “Makin’ Whoopie”.
The second part of the session was all about Miriam, having had a taste of her wonderful vocals earlier, and to take her mind off the nerves, I persuaded her to sing a few more songs from their repertoire, which resulted in some great relaxed, natural shots which we were both really pleased with.
I’d like to wish Miriam and Andy much success with “two more for the road”. I’m really looking forward to seeing them perform in the hopefully not too distant future.
